A Dual Circularly-Polarized Multilayer Reflective Surface Based on Loaded Ring Slots

In this paper, a dual circularly-polarized multilayer reflective surface (MRS) based on loaded ring-slots for reflectarray applications is presented. The MRS comprises wideband circular polarizer cascaded with screen independent phase shifting properties the two orthogonal linearly polarized components. first polarization conversion accomplished by four-layer periodic arrays of bisected split rings that converts incident waves, one left-handed (LHCPW) and other right-handed (RHCPW), into waves planes. These can be phase-shifted independently two-layer array specially designed elements. Each element consists ring-slot resonator pairs reactances orthogonally located varied to obtain linear reflection tapers along array. reflected are then transformed back circularly traveling desired directions. To validate proposed approach, six-layer prototype operating at 32 GHz provides elevation azimuthal angles RHCPW 22° 180°, respectively, LHCPW 18° 0°, has been designed, fabricated, experimentally verified.
